Heaven for Knitwear Designer-Makers
08 September 2011,
From the 5th to 11th September the UK will be celebrating all things woolly and championing The Campaign for Wool which was initiated by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales in Oct. 2008.
The wool industry has been in decline on British soil for the best part of a century. However the tides are now turning thanks not only to The Campaign for Wool but also our reinvigorated love of all things British and handmade. With rather outstanding results by new brands such as Izzy Lane, Am Golhur, Ardanalish and of course ourselves here at Borne Again.
This years events have seen His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall championing events such as The Wool Modern Exhibition at La Galleria attended also by fashion and film royalty including Vivian Westwood, Giles Deacon, Lily Cole and many more. Wool Modern at La Galleria is an exhibition showcasing the true versatility of the natural wool fibre. Featuring exclusive creations by renowned fashion and interior designers, it will show wool in all forms from fashion to crafts, safety and cars.
Other events include Jigsaw’s ‘Sheep to Shop’ which Sheep grazing outside the flagship store on Kings Road seeing plenty of smiles from shoppers and passer’s by.
This week we will see the UK embrace The Campaign for Wool's initiative for all things woolly, from the ground breaking exhibition of Wool Modern to the sheep grazing on Kings Road London and even a Woolly Tea Party hosted by Harvey Nichols. I personally cannot wait to get involved in next years events...
An inspiring quote from Vivian Westwood on her love of all things wool…
"Wool is one of the world's great natural fibres, famous for its versatility and comfort - warm in winter, cool in summer," said Westwood. "I do believe that because it is such a luxury fabric that its status will increase. People will not want manmade fibres anymore and luxury will be seen in the great traditional, natural, fibres."
